Welcome to another extraordinary week. And it really is extraordinary, especially if you're in Paris, which I am not. But the Olympics have started and I love the Olympics who doesn't right. Maybe you're spending a lot of time watching them. Maybe you're just catching the highlights, whatever, however it is that you take them in. Everybody is paying attention now. So this is going to be short because. Well the swimmers are on, in a little bit and I want to see. What happens even. I'm probably going to learn it. From the media before I even get to watch it. Regardless The Olympics tends to captivate audiences around the world, and really does transcend national boundaries, cultures, and generations. I love watching the open ceremonies for this purpose and. Really highlighting the. More of what we have in common than our differences. And one of the primary reasons that we're drawn to the Olympics is because the sheer spectacle of. Of willpower athletic ability and that is unfold. Display. And watching these elite athletes push the limits of human potential is not only inspiring, but it also. It's a celebration of dedication and perseverance and excellence, all the things that I think as those of us who aspire to extraordinary and living extraordinary lives. We aspire to those same qualities and these are amplified when we watch these athletes perform. their struggles, their sacrifices. The triumphs, they resonate with us deeply. And. we can reflect on universal themes of resilience and determination. And I'm not putting myself on that level. Although I joke about it all the time. And I have dreams of attending the Olympics. And since they're going to be in LA in four years, I have it in my head that I will. I will. Train and meet my goals and be in the place where I can travel to LA and actually be able to afford to go to the Olympics. Anyway, these are my goals. As I sit. And watch these athletes. I did for a while, walk on the treadmill and watch some of the competitions. So that's something I guess, but. Anyway, a The Olympics foster that sense of global unity and shared experience for a few weeks. People from diverse backgrounds come together and celebrate the common values of sportsmanship and fair play and mutual respect. and the Olympics also serves as a platform for showcasing different cultures and traditions. Promoting that understanding and appreciation of global diversity. So, what can we learn from watching the Olympics? First of all, goal setting and commitment. These athletes exemplify the importance of setting those clear ambitious goals and committing to them wholeheartedly. Their journey is teach us that success is rarely achieved overnight, but it's, Result of sustained effort and perseverance. We see them at the Olympics and we talk a lot about the, this being their one shot and. We for ed. And how heartbreaking it is when they have injuries or it doesn't go well. That it's all over for them. And we forget that this is their life. They interviewed cyclist, Chloe Dyker, after she got the bronze in her race, she was in the metal contention and rounded the corner on wet pavement into a little small section that turns into cobblestone. And just wiped out. Anyway, she gets back on the bike. After they've told us that they had to strap her foot in because of her, the pain in her ankle. They had to literally strap her in for her. She gets back on the bike finishes and gets Bruns and she has all of the emotions. And what she's saying in the interview is how grateful she is to be there because she'd had an accident. In the last Olympics or no, it was the world championship. She wiped out and spent weeks in the hospital. Recovering. And she said, I'm grateful to have my leg. I'm grateful. To just be able to compete, but you could tell it was mixed with that. I got the bronze. I was really going for it and she was disappointed. But when they asked her if she was going to be ready for the team event, she, and would she recover? And how did she feel about getting back? She, what she said was. Well, I'm kind of used to this. This is not, this is kind of every day for me. So what she was saying is That really she's there. Because she has that sustained perseverance. And the setbacks are normal for her. So. One goal setting and commitment then to resilience and adaptability, these athletes are facing those setbacks, whether it's injury, loss, challenges. Their ability to bounce back and continue to strive towards their goals. Highlights that importance of resilience and adaptability in overcoming. Our obstacles. I think of how going back to Chloe's story is. I think about how many times that I am. I started a new workout routine routine, and my hip starts to hurt or my knee hurts. And I just bail on that. I decide, oh, I should probably swim instead. Or I should take it easy or I should rest. And these athletes are able to push through those discomforts. And meet their goal, but because they have set a goal and they're committed to it. Teamwork and collaboration. Is another thing that we can see is that. Some sports. Well, there are some supports that focus on individual performance. Many of those Olympic events required teamwork and collaboration. It looked like Chloe was out there on her bike alone, but the truth is, is she has a whole team of people to be there, to support her. And to To meet those needs and to make it possible for her to get back up on her bike. Make it possible for her to have a good working bike, to have the nutrition along the way and all of the support that she needs to be able to keep going. athletes really demonstrate how working together. And leveraging each other's strengths and supporting one another can lead to those greater achievements. know I set better goals. I make better decisions. I'm more committed. My resilience is higher when I'm working with a coach, for example, because there's somebody there to check my end to encourage my, that mindset of getting to the finish line. Accountability is key. The fourth thing is mindfulness and focus, the intense concentration and mental fortitude displayed by these athletes during competition. Just highlights that mindfulness and focus. I'm reading a book by David Goggins and he's an ultra marathon runner and a Navy seal and the intensity of the mindfulness. He. A lot of times, we'll say that there, there's a question that comes up in your mind when you're competing at that level. And that is why am I doing this to myself? And I know that sometimes. In a much less intense situation. If my answer to, why am I doing this to myself? Is it really necessary to have this pain I'm likely to quit if I don't have that mindfulness and that focus and that bigger picture and what it really is about knowing that I can push the boundaries and find out what I'm capable of and knowing that's the reward being present and fully engaged in the task at hand is crucial for peak performance and both in sports. And. And life. So that mindfulness and focus. The other thing that we can learn from this as we're watching is we can really clue into the balance and the wellbeing. Because despite the regular bus training schedules, many of the athletes prioritize the balance in their lives, ensuring that they maintain that mental and emotional wellbeing. I think if I went to the Olympics, I would never miss that opening ceremony. the athletes that are competing in the next day or two are not going to that ceremony there. They're deciding to get the rest and take care of themselves. And I think what I. If I made it to the Olympics, what I want to miss that ceremony? That holistic approach to health and really underscores that importance of nurturing all aspects of our lives for sustained success and happiness. There's a reason why those athletes. Place high importance on having their families there to support them and getting the rest that they need. And we see that and Simone Biles sharing her story of what happened When she wasn't aligned with that balance and what happened to her? That was playing out on the world stage for all of us to see how many times do we not see that that it's really going on and how great it is when it, when it's highlighted adamant. It becomes a value. So as we applied our Olympic lessons to our own wellbeing, by adopting the principles and practices that we see in these Olympic athletes, we can enhance our, our overall wellbeing. One by setting clear goals, identify what you want to achieve in different areas from your life. Maybe your career aspirations, personal development. And break those goals into manageable steps to commit, to pursuing them with determination. I think I'm going to do that in light of that. And the conversation, if I'm going to keep talking about going to be a spectator. The Olympics in four years, what will I accomplish in four years? That will make that possible. Really see what we can achieve in different areas of our lives within a certain amount of time. And then cultivating resilience. We can embrace the challenges and. considering them ahead of time, planning for them and viewing the setbacks as opportunities for growth and develop. Develop those coping strategies to manage the stress and adversity. Like practicing mindfulness and seeking support from others Hire a coach and maintain that positive outlook. And then three foster that teamwork, whether it's in professional or personal settings. Prioritize collaboration and mutual support. We don't have to go to on our own. And we shouldn't and nobody that is successful. it said success, leaves clues anybody who's successful, you can probably tie it to, they have a good support network, whether it be in a mentor or in colleagues. It, however they have structured that they've surrounded themselves with a good team. Value the contribution of others and then work towards those common goals. Recognizing that collective effort often leads to greater success. And of course, I talk a lot about it, but practicing mindfulness, incorporating those techniques into your daily routine, like meditation, deep breathing exercises, or simply taking moments to be fully present. That can improve focus and it can reduce stress and enhance overall mental health. I am really getting into this around my cognition that I'm working with some beta testers. And seeing how it goes for them if, as they apply the same things that I've done in my own practice. And I'm getting really intentional about this technique. And so. As part of a course and an ebook that I'm creating. And if you want to know more about that, I love to share it with you because I really think that it's a game changer, a way to use things that in our normal environment, to be able to really be mindful and condition our brain, train our brain to show up in the way. That we want it to and cooperate with our goals. Now. Okay. So we have talked about setting clear goals, cultivating resilience. Fostering teamwork, practicing mindfulness, and then maintaining that balance. And sure that makes sure that you allocate time for various aspects of your life, including work and relationships and hobby and self care. And then strive for that balance lifestyle that promotes physical and mental and emotional wellbeing. And about ballots. Balance doesn't mean that you're going to play more and work less. It's going to be look different for everyone as well. some people might want to spend more time on certain things than others, and there's a difference between quality of time and quantity of time. make it something that works for you. So as we go about this next couple of weeks of. Watching the Olympics and really processing this and taking it in. It's a way for us to be a little bit more than spectators. And the, by going on a journey of goal visualization and planning. So I'm going to challenge you to identify a goal. Think of an area. Of your life, where you would like to see improvement or achievement. And this would be. Again, related to your career health relationships or personal development. And then visualize the success. Spent spend a few minutes each day, visualizing your achieving this school. Picture the steps that you took to get there and the challenges that you overcame and the satisfaction of your success. I imagine that Chloe visualized that race and And was prepared for things like, what was she going to do if she fell off her bike, or if she had an accident, something broke. She probably had that all visualized out so that she could keep going. So that in those times when you wipe out, We don't just quit. All right. So identify the goal, visualize the success, create that plan. Break down your goal into smaller, actionable steps. And then outline a timeline for each step and identify any resources or support that you might need along the way or is there a skill there that you need to build? Maybe you'll need to take a course or get some specific coaching on a part of that so that you have the resources. Maybe you'll have to buy a book of whatever it is. Just create that plan so that you can see where it is that you need resources. Courses or support. And then monitor progress. Regularly review the progress and adjust your plan as you need it. Celebrate the small victories along the way to stay motivated. And victories are your victories. Those are the ones where maybe even only, you know about them, but if you make it to the end of the day and you accomplish something that puts you closer to your goal. Celebrate it. All right. So reflect and adapt. So periodically reflect on your journey. And then consider what you've learned and how you've grown and he adjustments that you need to make to stay on track. So regularly reviewing could be daily. It could be weekly. And then reflecting and adapting could be weekly or monthly or quarterly, depending on the timeline you have mapped out for yourself. Remember the the saying that. We tend to underestimate what we can. Accomplish in a decade and overestimate what we can accomplish in a year. So it is okay to put out a three to five to 10 year plan. I know that there's a lot of uncertainty there, but it's better to be moving forward towards a goal. In this way, because you're going to create that this is what brings her joy to life is when we are making progress. When we're growing, when we feel alive, when we're contributing. And the only way we do that is if we're working really working towards a goal and we know where we're going, otherwise we're drifting, right. We're drifting to places that maybe we don't really mean to be. Where are you? This. And when we drift, we let relationships go that we didn't mean to let go of that are important to us. We let health. Aspects of our health go. There are all sorts of things that happen when you drift, just because one day you wake up and you think what? How did I get here? Right. So. By engaging in this exercise, you can gain clarity and motivation to pursue your goals a lot, like an Olympic athlete. You can be an Olympic hopeful in your own way. This process of visualization and planning and reflection will not only help to Achieve specific objectives, but it also fosters that personal growth and resilience. Evaluating your progress and adapting your approach as necessary will enable you to overcome obstacles and stay committed to your goals. So important. Because that's, what's going to ultimately enhance your overall wellbeing. All right. If you enjoyed this and if you're enjoying the Olympics, And want a way to make this meaningful for you as well as, as well as enjoyable. Entertainment.
